The Commercial Shield for Private Employers

Operating as a Chartered Builder (MCIOB) and drawing on my extensive background as a former Construction Director, I established Command Centre Commercial to fill a critical gap in the UK market: defending the Private Employer’s capital from aggressive construction margins.

Today, I partner directly with private clients and their appointed Principal Designers (Architects) to engineer the commercial frameworks of their builds. While the architect focuses on design intent and the contractor manages the physical execution, I operate strictly as your commercial shield. My primary objective is to strip the financial advantage away from the supply chain, structure immutable JCT contracts, and enforce data-driven cost control across the entire project lifecycle.

My commercial control frameworks are engineered specifically for projects carrying high financial volatility and strict regulatory constraints.

  • High-End Private Residential: Defending seven-figure budgets on bespoke private developments by forensically dissecting architectural drawings, aggressively interrogating Provisional Sums, and maintaining strict change-control protocols against contractor variations.
  • Grade 1 Listed & Heritage Works: Shielding clients through the commercial complexities of historic builds. I mitigate the severe financial risks associated with hidden defects, bespoke heritage trade packages, and Conservation Officer constraints.
  • Multi-Unit Flat Conversions: Managing the commercial alignment of complex building conversions. I coordinate specialised sub-consultants to ensure strict UK Building Regulations (Part E, Part F) and CDM 2015 duties do not derail the commercial baseline.

Complex construction carries inherent financial volatility. I support clients by front-loading the programme: rigorously vetting the supply chain, establishing clear payment schedules, and actively managing risk registers before site activity peaks.

By mitigating commercial and contractual friction, I allow design teams to focus entirely on technical delivery and statutory approvals, while providing the client with high financial transparency.


The Executive Protocols

Complex construction carries inherent financial volatility. I operate on a highly structured retainer basis, deploying three strict phases to lock down your capital:

  • Phase 0: The Commercial Baseline (Pre-Contract): Before site activity begins, we execute a Master Bill of Quantities and a Tender Equalisation Matrix. We strip out hidden contractor markups and establish the absolute financial boundaries of the project via a hard-coded JCT contract.
  • Phase 1: The Commercial Shield (Active Build): Executive-level remote commercial control. I process consolidated trade valuation cycles, reject unapproved scope creep, and enforce delay damages (LADs) to keep the contractor strictly aligned with the contract.
  • Phase 2: Forensic Close-Out: Conducting forensic final account reviews. I verify that the contractor is only paid for 100% completed, documented, and defect-free works prior to final handover.

Professional Background

Executive Leadership (2021 – August 2024)

Prior to establishing my independent consultancy, I served as Construction Director at Expand Build. In this role, I provided executive leadership and commercial control for high-end residential projects, encompassing complex conversions, full property renovations, and highly regulated new builds.

Core Impact:

  • Maintained executive oversight on 15+ complex projects, actively managing multi-million-pound budgets (exceeding £2M) and mitigating severe contractual risks.
  • Managed the procurement, vetting, and financial control of highly specialised M&E and sustainable energy subcontractors for complex zero-carbon infrastructure integrations (Westminster, Malden Road, Ealing).

Foundational Industry Experience (Pre-2021)

Before stepping into executive commercial control, I spent over a decade mastering the physical and logistical realities of the UK construction sector from the ground up. This era provided my foundational education in how sites truly operate, how trades actually build their margins, and exactly where project budgets fail.

Rather than observing from a desk, I progressed through every operational tier—from early groundwork and site management to founding and directing my own independent building firm, NCM Building Ltd. I have directly managed supply chains, executed high-value structural conversions, and partnered with national housebuilders like Cala Homes.

Because I have operated at the highest levels of contracting, I know exactly how builders construct their tenders and where hidden costs are buried. Today, I use that exact insider knowledge to protect the Private Employer.
